VIU participates in the 48H Open House Barcelona

VIU participated in the 2023 edition of 48h Open House Barcelona, which took place on October 21st and 22nd. Our building opened its doors on the morning of Saturday, October 21st, with the goal of showcasing Viu's unique architectural features to all our visitors.

What is 48h Open House?

It's an architecture festival held in six cities: Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Vilassar de Dalt, Sant Joan Despí, Badalona, Hospitalet de Llobregat, and Sitges.

The festival's aim is to bring architectural heritage closer to local residents and citizens, emphasizing its importance in the cultural identity of each city. To achieve this, it opens up places that are typically not accessible, such as the Arc de Triomf or the Modelo Prison, for an entire weekend. Visitors not only get to explore these sites but also participate in guided tours and activities that explain their unique features, history, and interesting facts.

What did VIU's visitors get to see?

On the morning of October 21st, we conducted several guided tours of Viu's building to highlight its distinctive features and introduce our sustainable architecture to our neighbors.

The Rooftop

Our rooftop is a vital component of sustainable architecture, designed to combat the urban heat island effect. Visitors could observe the use of light-colored materials, reducing heat absorption, and the native plants covering it, all contributing to a cooler environment.

We also showcased the 18 photovoltaic panels on the rooftop, which supply a significant portion of the building's electrical needs.

Bioclimatic Passive Design

We explained the building's bioclimatic passive design, demonstrating how the placement of windows and ventilation elements optimizes natural airflow, reducing the need for air conditioning.

Construction Materials

Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the materials used in Viu and their benefits for both people and the environment, emphasizing the sustainability of our choices.

Furniture

Our furniture choices at Viu are noteworthy, all being made from iron and wood. This design not only ensures durability but also eases recycling or repurposing at the end of their life cycle, reducing waste compared to conventional furniture.
